Harold Tjaden stands in front of wall to be painted with mural.

Pop's Sweet Shop at the corner of Sixth and Chestnut is undergoing a makeover with a mural to be painted on the north wall of the building which has been recently purchased by "Shorty" Glowacki. Local contractor Harold Tjaden said he is funding the painting of a mural from a picture of the Sutton Gardens from 1935. Tjaden's employees are busy applying primer and a finish coat to the wall in preparation for the Walldogs from Pontiac to paint the mural.
Tjaden said the Walldogs will come some night and project an image of the photograph on the building to provide the outline for the contents of the picture which will be traced onto the wall. Then the painters will fill in the outlines with the picture contents. The Walldogs are expected to start the mural around September 15th.
Tjaden said so far his crew has applied 30 gallons of paint in the preparation. He said that it will cost him around $10,000 to pay the Walldogs for the painting of the mural.
Below the Tjaden crew applies a finish coat of concrete paint. The top part is sky blue and will be painted in with clouds by the mural artists and the bottom color is a celery green.
