The new Auxiliary year began July 1, 2010, our auxiliary currently has 6 Life members and 46 annual members. Our dues are $10. per year, and are due after June 1st each year. If you are a wife, mother, sister, daughter or grandmother, or are a direct relative of a veteran who has served outside the United States borders, you may be eligible to join our auxiliary. We meet the 3rd Monday of each month, 1:00 p.m. at South Haven community room.
The ladies have various programs planned for the remainder of the year. In August we will travel to the LaSalle Veterans home to visit with them, in September we will have a POW-MIA program during our September 20th meeting, this program is a Rememberance dedicated to all soldiers who have been lost during the war's, the 7th District auxiliary President, Donna Walker of Pontiac will be joining us. In November the ladies put together Thanksgiving plates and deliver them to shut in's and members, including veterans who live at the Heritage Home, and December we have a Christmas party and invite our Post 7185 men and spouses to join us.
Our ladies also work on the various National programs, such as Veterans & Family Support, VA Hospitals and VA homes, National Childrens Home in Michigan, Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen essay contests, Youth Activities and others. Our Cancer Aid and Research program is well supported by over 200 auxiliaries in Illinois. Last year $122, 406. was donated to this program in Illinois. The Minonk ladies auxiliary will be planning a fundraiser this fall, with the proceeds going to Cancer Aide and Research in memory of our past President, Agnes Nemmers, and all the persons who have been affected by this disease in the Minonk area.
Part of the ladies membership, includes a Cancer Grant, given out twice to any one person who qualifies according to the National organizations guidelines. You must be a member for at least one year before you may apply for a grant.
