A Grayville woman's husband is assuming command of the 138th Military Intelligence Company at Robins Air-Force Base in Georgia. Captain Kraig M. Kline, husband of the former Brandy Hodgson, a Grayville native, took over the unit in ceremonies held May 21. The company was preceded by the Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (J9TARS), 29th Military Intelligence Battalion and the JSTARS Element, Joint Test Force Melboune, Fla., and began operations in 1994 at Robins.
The company was initially responsible for accommodating Army personnel that would be assigned as aircrew in the future JSTARS Wine. The company was involved in NATO and United Nations operations in Bosnia, and later supported operations in Korea and southwest Asia. The company deployed aircrews in Operation Desert Thunder until June 1998.
During Operation Enduring Freedom the company deployed alr crews to Afghanistan and subsequently was heavily involveed in Operation lraqui Freedom. The JSTARS Company was reorganized into the 138th in October 2004 and continues support in the Global War on Terrorism and other missions.
Capt. Kline enlisted in the Army as an All Source Intelligence Analyst in 2000 and commissioned into military intelligence with a branch detail to the Chemical Corps through a Green to Gold ROTC scholarship in July 2001. His military education and schooling includes Intelligence Analyst Course, Chemical Officer Basic Course, the Military Intelligence Captain's Career Course, Airborne School and Air Assault School.
He has served in a variety of positions including Battalion Chemical Officer, 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment; and Deputy Brigade 52, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment.
Capt. Kline has deployed four times in support of the Global War on Terrorism. His deployments include Operation Iraqui Freedom from January 2004 through April 2004 serving as the Battalion Battle Captain, 2nd Baftalion, 504th parachute Infantry Regiment; Operation Enduring Freedom from April 2005 through April 2006 serving as the Battalion Regiment and Anti-Bank platoon Leader, Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, 504th parachute Infantry Regiment; Operation Iraqui Freedom from June 2007 through June 2008 serving as the Brigade Combat Team Fusion Chief and Collection Manager, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment; and Operation Iraqui Enduring Freedom from August 2009 through January 2010, serving as the Deputy Mission Crew Commander for JSTARS.
Upon arrival at Robins Air Force Base, Capt. Kline completed the E-8C Mission Crew Commander's Course and SERE training. He was an attached flyer with the 16th Airborne Command and Control Squadron and deployed to the CENTCOM AOR. Capt. Kline recently returned from his first deployment with JSTARS.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (l OLC), the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the lraq Campaign Medal, the GIobal War on Terrorism Expeditionary MedaI, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon Ribbon (2nd award), the Combat Action Badge, the Basic Aviation Badge, the parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge and the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge.
Capt. Kline is a graduate of Illinois State university where he received a bachelor of science and a master's of science in Criminal Justice in 1999 and 2003. He is the son of John, formerly of Dana, and Kris Kline.
