Minonk is once again celebrating summer with 2 events: the 4TH of JULY and MINONK DAYS celebrations in 2005.  We look forward to seeing many friends and family at our events and invite you to join in the festivities with us.

4th of JULY Events – July 3rd and 4th

A beer garden will be opening at 6:00 pm on the 3RD in the Veterans Park pavilion next to the baseball diamonds featuring the band “SHOTGUN CHARLIE”.

Festivities on the 4th will include a Parade and Kiddie Parade kicking off from the corner of 4th Street and Chestnut Street at 9:45 am.  The fireworks, as always will be displayed at dusk after attendees enjoy the music of MODERN COWBOYZ from the main stage in Suttons Park from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  Be prepared to witness yet another outstanding event.  Parade winners will be honored during an intermission in the show.

 MINONK DAYS – August 18th to 21st

Six weeks later BIG H will be bringing their carnival to town opening at 6:00 pm on Thursday, August 18th for three days in the south end of Suttons Park.  Back by popular demand is WRIST BAND night on Thursday and again on Saturday afternoon.

At the end of the Saturday afternoon wristband there will be drawings to give away three OCC children’s bikes (as pictured).  To be entered you must have purchased a wristband for Saturday afternoon.

The Minonk Days festival will take place over four days from August 18th to the 21st.  There will be activities and entertainment for young and old alike.  Throughout the weekend (19th to 21st) the Minonk Military Display can be viewed at the Picket Fences building located at 556 N. Chestnut Street.  The doors will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day.

There will be other activities and entertainment for young and old alike.  On Friday evening, attendees can enjoy a Summer Songfest – Community concert held at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ at 7:00 p.m.  Be amazed in Suttons Park at 6:00 p.m. by the magic of Rob Thompson of Pure Magic followed by the Pet Parade beginning a little later at 7:30 p.m. featuring the best look alikes (owner and pet), best tricks (sorry, pets only) and best costume. The beer tent, which opens at 6:00 in the City Hall parking lot, will feature music from the ever popular SISTER GROOVE beginning at 9:00 pm.

Saturday, August 20 will start off in the morning with a Craft Show/Flea Market in Suttons Park running all through the day until 8:00 pm.  The BIG H carnival will open up again at 1:00 pm with offering rides with the purchase of a wristband.  Everyone will have the opportunity to play BINGO this year from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at St. Pat’s Catholic Church Hall.  Kids can also take part in a varied assortment of games starting at 1:00 pm and a watermelon eating contest starting at 2:00 pm all in Suttons Park.  Proud owners will be showing off their wheels at a Cruise In with a DJ in Suttons Park north end from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  Although we are wondering if it will ever rain this year, a rain date has been set for the Cruise In on the next day (Sunday, August 21st).  Rain or shine, the beer tent will open again from 6:00 pm to 1:00 am showcasing “THE NEW GLORY STOMPERS” from 9:00 pm to closing.

Sunday activities will start later in the day at 3:00 pm. with the JIM MARKUM SWING BAND closing this four day event with an Ice Cream social in Westside Park on Sunday, followed by a Community Worship Service at 5:00 pm.

Both the 4th celebrations and the festivities of Minonk Days promise to be worth your while to attend.  A copy of the events can be seen at local businesses or on the Minonk Talk website www.minonktalk.com.
