It will be four years on June 20th that the MidState Stars have had to travel away for every game during the three seasons each year that they have stepped on the pitch. So when the opportunity was granted them to develop their own home field in Minonk by New Millennia Community Center, Inc. at the New Millennia Park; there was no reason not to move ahead with the development.
Though it didn’t happen over-night; the full size 70 yard by 110 yard field was laid out to meet IHSA and NCAA requirements, and would allow more future opportunities for the community and the MidState Stars Soccer Club. The planned international goals were to be made very durable since older aluminum goals could not stand the test of time. Upon receiving the request for 4”x 4” steel tube, Vissering Construction of Streator and Independence Tube Corporation of Marseilles were more than happy to provide the materials as a donation for our field of dreams. Having the goals designed for construction was provided by some of the American Buildings Company Plant employees for easy assembly. The goals were planted on September 26th, 2009. The nets, corner flags, line painter, and paint were ordered this last January provided by New Millennia Community Center, Inc. The field is waiting to be lined within the next week.
The MidState Stars announce their first home game on May 13th at 6:30 pm against UCFC in a ‘friendly’ game. Having already played United in a close game this spring season in the MSI Adult League, they were approaching the league teams for some games to prepare for the approaching summer Adult Summer League in Normal. The invite went out, and was accepted; and referees are currently being scheduled.
With one of the finest pitch to play on, in the most wonderful setting; the MidState Stars should see more home games once the word gets out about the great field they can offer to play on.
The MidState Stars Soccer Club wants to thank Robert Hakes, Roger Haab, and Mark Weers for providing the goals and equipment that allowed the completion of the best field in Central Illinois for the game of soccer.
The MidState Stars Soccer Club would also like to thank their sponsors Minonk, Roanoke, and Eureka Community Banks, Morton Community Bank, SMF, Inc., Crop Production Services of Wenona, Lincor Computer Solutions of Canton, and Jay Hurd of Country Financial Services for their continuing support.
