After 33 years of teaching thousands of students the fine art of music, Marty Abbott plans to step down this spring at the conclusion of the school year.
A reception and program is slated for Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Calvary United Methodist Church at 1700 Towanda Ave. in Normal, IL. A program celebrating Mr. Abbott’s life and career will start at 1 pm. An "open" microphone will be provided so that anyone who wants to share a particular memory may do so. From 3-4 pm, there will be an "open house" style reception with refreshments.
Marty Abbott was born in Smithfield, Illinois and graduated from Cuba High School, and later from Illinois State University with a degree in music education. His career spans over thirty years as a band director, first at Wyoming High School (1975-83), then Minonk-Dana Rutland High School (1983-91), and finally Olympia High School (1991-present).
