The Village-Aires Community Choir, founded in 1967 by Ann Dirksen, Dr. H.T. Barrett, and others, is conducting its spring subscription drive for the 2007 season. The Village-Aires have been entertaining people in Minonk and the surrounding area for 40 years. During this time, the volunteer group has given a great deal of enjoyment to many and has given back to the community in the form of donations to various charitable events and to the school with the purchase of equipment that is shared with the drama department.
The choir has found that, just like other prices keep rising, the cost of putting on shows twice a year has also increased. Since it is a non-profit organization, that means that the cost of costuming, music, staging and equipment has also become an issue of concern. Updating equipment is a priority in order to put on quality shows.
For this reason, the Village-Aires would like to invite community members and businesses to become Patrons of the choir by donating to the staging fund for future shows. Any donation amount will be appreciated. For the 2007 season, the subscriptions may be purchased at the following two levels:
• PATRON: Donations of any amount up to $100.00. This subscription will entitle the donor to special recognition for the spring and fall shows in the program for each show.
• PATRONS’ CIRCLE: Donations of $100.00 or more. This subscription will entitle the donor to the special recognition described above for Patrons. In addition, there will be special seating for 2 for the spring and fall shows, and an invitation to a Patrons’ Circle Reception following each Saturday night show.
In order for Patrons’ names to be printed in the Spring Show program, donations must be received by April 10, 2007. Donations received after that date will be recognized in the Fall Show program.
For further information contact Elaine Cunningham, Director, at 309/432-2249. Checks should be made payable to “The Village-Aires.”
The Village-Aires’ Spring Show, “Fabulous 40th” will be presented on Saturday, April 28, at 7:00 p.m., and on Sunday, April 29, at 3:00 p.m. in the Fieldcrest High School Gym. A multi-media show is being prepared to show highlights of shows over the past 40 years, with a special salute to veterans and those currently serving in our armed forces. Other highlights of the show will include a little something for everyone: Broadway musicals medley, movie hits, country, the 50s and 60s, Disney favorites, pop and sacred numbers. Anyone who has been a part of the Village-Aires through the years is invited to join the choir on stage for a special number. If you would like to participate, just contact Elaine Cunningham.
Maintaining an active Community Choir takes a lot of support from all those involved, as well as the community and surrounding area. Thank you in advance for your support---see you at the “Fabulous 40th” on April 28th or 29th !
