Brad Schumacher from the Monsanto Fund presented two checks to local community organizations for the third annual America's Farmers Grow Communities award at the Minonk Township Food Pantry meeting on March 21st, 2013. Under this program eligible farmers in 1,271 counties across 39 states including Illinois enter to win a $2,500 donation of their choice. The purpose of Grow Communities is to recognize the vital role that American farmers play and to help them grow their communities by supporting local organizations that are important to them. More than 60,000 farmers across the country participated in the program this year, and one winning farmer was selected in each eligible county.
Gene Cunningham of Minonk won in the Woodford Country drawing and chose to direct this $2,500 donation to the Minonk Township Food Pantry. This year the Monsanto Fund is providing twice the financial support to counties that have been declared natural disaster areas but the USDA. Woodford was one such country, and Mr. Cunningham chose to direct the additional $2,500 to the Minonk Ambulance Service.
