Eli Hahn stands next to his many awards as a Cub Scout
On February 18th Cub Scout Pack 78 of Minonk celebrated Blue and
Gold. Blue and Gold is a tradition that celebrates the "birth" of Scouting
(Boy’s and Cub’s). We celebrated with a Hawaiian Luau. We use this night as a
time to reward the boys that have completed the requirements required by their
rank within the pack. This Blue and Gold was an extra special one, because we
said good-bye to two of our pack members. First was Barbara Hahn who has been a
dedicated leader and volunteer with the pack since 2002.
We also said good-bye to one of our boys: Eli Hahn. Eli started with Scouts
from the beginning as a Tiger Cub in September 2002. He completed all
requirements and even earned some extra ones such as the World Conservation
Award and the Leave No Trace Award. Once a boy has entered in to 5th
grade he begins his transition in to Boy Scouts. Before he leaves he has the
opportunity to earn one more award. This award is the highest honor a Cub Scout
can earn, and it is the Arrow of Light. This is a great honor and not many boys
achieve it. Eli has been a dedicated and admirable Scout. He has also been a
spokesperson for the pack. An example of his bravery is when he stood in front
of City Council to ask permission to plant our trees.
In a brief summary here is what he has completed since he started:
2002 earned Tiger badge: 15 requirements, and 70 electives
2003 earned Bobcat badge: 8 requirements
2004 earned Wolf badge: 12 requirements and 120 electives
2005 earned Bear badge: 12 requirements and 50 electives
2006/2007 earned Webelos badge: 10 involved requirements
In addition, recognition for 36 outside sports and academic activities. Then
there are the many hours spent doing volunteer work, like the planting of the
trees, writing letters to our troops, helping others, picking up litter, helping
replant the flowers at Westside park.
I know this is a long list, but this is something that I felt needed to be
shared with you. This is one boy that I know will go far in his life, and is an
exemplary role model for the other youth in our town.
The above picture is Eli standing next to his "brag" table at the Blue and
Gold banquet. He is holding his Arrow of Light that proudly displays his most
honorable achievements. The red vest holds the many patches that he has received
for other things that he has done.
