Fieldcrest High School Principal, William Lapp, announced today that Fieldcrest High School earned an Academic Improvement Award from the Illinois State Board of Education for substantial gains made in the area of student assessment. One of 3 Illinois Honor Roll awards sponsored by ISBE, Fieldcrest was 1 of only 114 schools (25 total high schools) that received the award this year.
Criteria for recognition include improvement by 7.5 points in state test scoring in reading and math the past 2 years or 15 points over the past 3 years and the demonstration of an upward trend in state test results. Scores are compiled from the results of the (PSAE) Prairie State Achievement Exam, the annual state assessment for juniors.
"This is a wonderful achievement for our school community," stated Lapp."The staff in our high school spends endless hours reviewing individual student's achievement data and identifying areas where we can improve the lessons instructed and our curriculum in general."
The high school was also notified recently that 2 courses, Calculus and American Studies History, have been approved as College Board Advanced Placement Courses.
Deb Henderson, Guidance Counselor also applauds the efforts."It is exciting to see the results of the great progress and hard work of the staff and students over several years and to see their recognition of those efforts," says Henderson. The 2012 Prairie State Achievement Exam is scheduled for April 24th and 25th.
