Fieldcrest Board Meeting Summary

The Fieldcrest CUSD 6 Board of Education held its regular Board meeting on Wednesday, January 29, 2015. Members present were Tom Barth, Scott Hillenburg, Joe Kirkpatrick, Greg Kroeschen, Tim McNamara, and Danielle Reichman. Also present were Superintendent Dan Oakley, South Principal Jason Chaplin, and a number of staff and community members. Also present was David Pistorious, representative from First Midstate.
In Board action during regular session, the Board: approved the opening of several closed session minutes following a review; adopted a bond resolution for the sale of $118,000 in bonds for the purpose of health life safety costs on the fire alarm system at West; named Superintendent Oakley as the Title II Coordinator for the district; approved a bus lease contract with Central States for 2015-2016; amended the 2014-2015 public school calendar; adopted a PRESS policy update package; and approved a pre-referendum services contract with Farnsworth Group, the district's architectural firm.
In personnel action, the Board: hired Dick Hahn as a driver; and recognized Kim McGuane's resignation effective at the end of the 2014-2015 school year.
Mr. Oakley presented an initial budget alignment report, which outlined the fiscal concerns facing the district in the upcoming school year. The presentation also provided broad possible approaches on how to bridge the gap and align the budget for the 2015-2016 school year. Mr. Oakley also addressed: concerns about the annex and the need to either repair the building or tear it down; the need to take action on the Wenona TIF I District renewal request; updated the Board on the ongoing litigation against the district; and asked the Board to consider the possibility of making an attractive offer to Lostant regarding sending all high school students to Fieldcrest.
Mr. Chaplin spoke to the Board regarding activities at South. The next regular Board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Febbruary 25, at 7:00 pm at Fieldcrest High School band room, with closed session starting at 6:30 pm.
