Minonk native Mary Paloumpis Hallick of Germantown, WI has made a name for herself in the publishing industry. Dr. Hallick has just released her 4th book, Power of the Cross.
Her books are written to appeal to the young teenagers of the Eastern Othodox Church (better known as Greek Orthodox). Her interest in this group is a result of being married to a Greek Orthodox priest.
The books have centered on the biography of saints, the study of icons, the cultural differences of the Greek, Russian, Lebanese, Serbian, Russian and Finnish Orthodox Churches, even though they are of the same religion; and the historical study of the Cross.
Her book, The Story of Icons, is in its 2nd printing and has been translated into Chinese!
Dr. Hallick is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Tom Paloumpis who ran the Princess Sweet Shop in Minonk for many years. She graduated from Minonk Community High School in 1940 and has a BS degree in Education from ISU, a Masters from the University of South Dakota, and a Doctorate in Education from Marquette University.
She has taught school in Illinois, Mass., Iowa, and Wisconsin and has traveled extensively. She began her writing career in 1980.
The books she has written are The Story of Icons, The Book of Saints, The Treasured Traditions and Customs of the Orthodox Churches, and her latest, Power of the Cross. Her books can be bought on the following link at Amazon.com. The books will be available after the middle of February.
