Coalmine mule

Text provided by Donna Rae Eilts
The coal cars in the Minonk coalmine were pulled by mules from the farthermost points in the mine. Here, Jack Stupek rides a car with one foot riding the rail to slow it when it came to an incline in the hilly terrain on the mine floor. Exra thick soles were needed on their shoes by the drivers to sustain the heavy wear.
