In Memory of Donna Rae Eilts

April 12, 2011   Editor: Dave Uphoff
One of the most important contributors to this web site passed away last month. Donna Rae Eilts died on March 29, 2011 in Florence, Ky. Donna provided much of the history content for MinonkTalk with the many old photos and stories that she had compiled over the years into two giant scrapbooks.

The history that Donna had compiled was the major impetus for developing the MinonkTalk web site. I felt her research should be shared with the general public. Thus the idea for this web site was borne.

I knew Donna all my life being a classmate of hers from the class of 1959. I spent many hours at her house when she lived in Minonk poring over old photos and stories that she had collected. She spent many hours typing up many of the history stories that are on this web site.

Donna and her husband Russell moved to Kentucky four years ago where one of her daughters lived. I last saw her this past summer when she and her husband Russell had returned to Minonk to visit friends. She appeared to be in good spirits. However, this spring she took a turn for the worst and lost the battle against lung cancer.

Donna, along with her colleague Jari Lynn Oncken, captured Minonk's history for all of us to share and enjoy. Her unselfish devotion to Minonk history was critical to the success of this web site. She leaves behind a legacy of which her family and friends should be proud and one for which we will be forever grateful. Our sympathy goes out to her family.
