Obituary

Perle E. Tjaden, 94, of Minonk, formerly of Dana, died at 9:05 p.m. Friday (May 5, 2017) at Heritage Health of Minonk.

She was born on Nov. 17, 1922, in Rochelle to the late Harris and Mabel (Baker) Thorp. She married Louis J. Tjaden on Nov. 15, 1940, in Kansas City, Mo. He preceded her in death in June 1980. Perle was also preceded in death by one son, Dennis; three brothers; and two sisters.

Perle is survived by one daughter, Sharon (Douglas) Welch of Normal; one son, Royce Tjaden of Minonk; two grandchildren, Roxanne (Dom) DeGrammont of Anaheim Hills, Calif., and Greg Broquard of Washington, D.C.; and five great-grandchildren, Tim, Andy and Robert Hinger, and Natalie and Samantha Broquard.

Perle worked as a waitress for many years in Dana, Minonk, Rutland, Flanagan, and Streator. She was a member of the Minonk United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She loved to travel and meet new people. She left a lasting memory on everyone she met. Perle enjoyed spending time with her family the most.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Ruestman-Harris Funeral home in Minonk. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Peters Lutheran Church Cemetery in Benson. Mary Hartsler will officiate.
