Obituary: James E. Thompson, 86 - October 14, 2018
WASHBURN - James "Jim" E. Thompson, 86, of Washburn, IL, passed away at 10:32 p.m. Sunday, October 14, 2018, at the Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke.

He was born on October 27, 1931, in Streator, IL, to Clarence and Catherine (Tarman) Thompson. He married Gwyn Gutherz on October 14, 1956, in Minonk. She survives.Also surviving are her children, Denise Thompson of Peru, IL, and Steven (Mary) Thompson of Alpena, MI; three sisters-in-law, Ivanelle Cunningham of Minonk, Elizabeth Uphoff of Washington and Norma Haase of Benson; one step-grandson, Greg Ritchie of Alpena, MI; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Dale, Harold and William; and two sisters, Edith and Colleen.

Jim was a U.S. Marine veteran, honorably serving during the Korean War. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #661 in Washburn, IL.

Jim lived in Minonk from 1941 to 1981. He worked for Minonk Dairy, prior to working as a machinist at Caterpillar for 17 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of St. Paul's Church in Minonk, IL. Jim loved the outdoors and always enjoyed fishing and gardening among many other activities.

Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Minonk is assisting the family.

Cremation will be accorded. There will be no services.

Memorials may be made in Jim's name to the American Legion Post #661 in Washburn, IL; or the charity of the donor's choice.
