Obituary

Lucille Marie Gunther, 93, of Minonk, passed away at 1:35 p.m. Friday (March 31, 2017) at Heritage Health, Minonk.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, Minonk. Her funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Minonk, with visitation an hour prior to the service. The Rev. Ed Sinclair will officiate. Burial will be at Minonk Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ or to Heritage Health, Minonk.

Lucille was born Feb. 10, 1924, in rural Minonk, to Heindrich Lubbe and Dena A. (Feken) Harms. She married Nelson H. Gunther on April 27, 1963, in Minonk. He preceded her in death on Aug. 15, 2002.

Surviving are two daughters, Joy (Dan) McDowell, La Grange, and Kris (Jeff) Ellingson, Minonk; and three grandchildren, Bridget and Brinn McDowell and Trey Ellingston.

Her parents; one brother, Arthur; and a sister, Ermyle Walters, preceded her in death.

Lucille was a school teacher in the Minonk area for over 38 years. She started teaching in a one-room school house and then at Minonk Grade School.

She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed to bake, sew and crochet. She also helped with the food pantry.
