Marsha Leiken Gould, 63 - April 24, 2014

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Marsha Leiken Gould, 63, Savannah, Ga., and wife of Jerren "Jay" Gould, died Tuesday morning (April 22, 2014) at her home surrounded by her family and under the care of Hospice Savannah.

Born in Streator, she was a daughter of the late Isadore I. Leiken and Mollie Kramer Leiken. Marsha was a member of Congregation Mickve Israel.

Marsha received her bachelor of arts from the University of Florida and her master's degree from the University of North Carolina, where she met her future husband, Jay. They were married on July 8, 1973, under a chuppa in Peoria. They moved to Claremont, Calif., to begin their new life. Her career as a speech pathologist took a hiatus to nurture and develop their two children, Margalit and Jerrik. Their lives passed through Huntsville, Ala.; Oak Hill, Va.; and Tucson, Ariz. They retired to Bald Head Island, N.C.., and then on to Savannah, where she fell in love with her home, Savannah's cultural activities and The Landings community.

Marsha loved being a mother, a companion with Jay, traveling the world, playing bridge and golf. She was a sports fan, rooting for the Cubs, the Bears, and her beloved Tar Heels basketball team.

Throughout her illness, she fought against her cancer bravely and without complaint. She did her best to make the situation easier for her family and friends.

Surviving are her husband, Jay, Savannah; one daughter, Margalit C. Gould, and one son, Jerrik J. Gould, both of Chicago; her mother, Mollie Kramer Leiken, and one brother, N. Ned Leiken, both of Bloomington.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah, Ga., conducted by Rabbi Robert W. Haas.
