FLANAGAN - Herman T. Budde, 76, of 609 E. 2200 North Road, Flanagan, passed away at 10:54 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 27, 2008) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center in Normal.

Herman was born Jan. 8, 1932, in Tilden, Neb., a son of Theodore H. and Marie J. Harms Budde. He married D. Darlene Decker on June 10, 1956, at the Central Church of Christ in Streator. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Melody L. (Mark) Remeta and Treva L. Budde, both of Long Point; and Arlene M. (Tom) Godar, Peoria; one son, David W. Budde, Oak Harbor, Wash.; two AFS students who resided with the Budde family, Rossy B. Pomaya de Garcia, Lima, Peru, and Katja Dachs, Rosenheim, Germany; one brother, Henry C. (Linda) Budde, Minonk; three sisters, Hilda Oltman and Esther Decker, both of Streator; and Amelia Janssen, Benson; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and four brothers-in-law.

Herman was a 1950 graduate of Minonk Community High School. He served his country during the Korean conflict with the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1953 and then with the Army Reserves from 1953 to 1960.

He was a farmer and worked as a general contractor for Budde and Winters Construction from 1973 to 1993. He retired in 1994.

Herman served on the Minonk-Dana-Rutland School Board for 7½ years. He was a member during the formation of the Fieldcrest School District in 1992. He also dedicated time to his church council and building committee as well as raising buffalo for 11 years.

He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Minonk, where his funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Craig Swenson will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Minonk and one hour before the service Thursday at his church. Burial will be in the Minonk Township Cemetery, with full military honors.
