The Minonk CIty Council approved a loan and a TIF application at their normal Monday night meeting. SMF, Inc. received a Revolving Loan Fund amount of $50,000 for the purchase of a new laser cutting machine. The loan is for five years at 3%. SMF representative Paul Halverson said the purchase of the machine will allow the company to do more work locally rather than outsourcing it to another company. SMF will be able to do an additional $30,000 of work each month which will add 6 to 8 jobs.
The council approved an application for TIF 2 funds from Jim Brown for the installation of 5 windows in the building at 408 N. Chestnut. The amount of the grant is limited to $1,250 or 50% of the total cost, whichever is less.
Presentation for Safe Driving
Connor McGuane, a member of the FOCUSED organization at Fieldcrest High School, gave a presentation on the need for safe and educated driving in Minonk. The organization is requesting the City Council to address the safety conditions at the New Millennia Park and at Fieldcrest High School. McGuane said a lower speed limit sign is needed at the entrance to the New Millennia Park at the north edge of Minonk because of the number of people who use the park. He also stressed the need for a
Pedestrian Walk sign since people cross the road to go from the park to the walking path through Sutton's Park. McGuane said a 10 mph sign should be posted in the driveway to Fieldcrest High School so people know the speed limit for the entire driving area within the high school grounds.
Alderwoman Kerri Carls suggested putting up a sign stating that the pedestrian has the right-of-way at the New Millennia Park. Alderman Sean Cunningham said these issues will be taken up at the next Public Safety Committee meeting.
In other business, the council approved the new tax levy.
