The Minonk City Council approved a bid of $57,500 by Town & Country Construction of Minonk for repairs to the wastewater treatment plant. City Administrator Doug Elder said there was only the one bid for the contract and he recommended the bid be approved. The repair work includes not only the roof, but also insulation, drywall and light fixtures. There will be a $2500 unit price for each additional rafter that needs to be replaced as well as $500 for each ceiling joist needing replacement. Elder said the city has no choice but to do the repairs adding that insurance will cover $30,000 of the cost and the remainder will come out of the sewer fund.
Seizure and Impounding Ordinance
The council was given a first reading on Ordinance 2010-11 which amends the ordinance to give specific guidelines for the seizure and impounding of vehicles. The amendments cover not just abandoned cars but also cars with controlled substances or drugs, drunken driving, etc. Fees and storage costs are also defined. The ordinance will be voted on at the next council meeting.
Millennia Park Subdivision
The council was given a first reading on Ordinance 2010-12 which accepts the public improvements of the Millennia Park Subdivision. The developer has made improvements to the road as requested by the city and has made other changes. Alderman Sean Cunningham asked if street lights are required to be installed. City Administrator Doug Elder said he would check into that requirement.
Ambulance Billing Service
The council approved an agreement with Susan Moen of Professional Billing Services to do the billing for the ambulance squad. City Administrator Doug Elder said the billing company would get paid based on the amount of bills collected as compared to being paid based on the amount of the bill with the previous billing company. Elder said this gives the billing company more of an incentive to collect the bills for the ambulance squad. He added that the billing company does billing for other towns in the area including El Paso.
Other Business
The council was given a copy of the Auditor's Report for their review. Any questions on the report should be forward to the City Administrator who will direct them to the auditing company of Striegel Knobloch & Co.
Alderwoman Julie Redenius said that Fieldcrest Doug Roberts, FIeldcrest South Principal, told her that the school's fire alarm is not able to be connected to the fire department.
Alderman
Nick Fiorini asked what plans have been made for the property across from the Veteran's Park ball diamond after the house has been torn down. City Administrator Doug Elder said that the property belongs to the Minonk Township and the question should be directed to them. Alderwoman Keri Carls said she heard that a petition is being circulated asking that the property be used as a parking lot for the ball diamonds at Veteran's Park.
