The Minonk City Council approved an ordinance amending the definition of a golf cart for use on city streets. The purpose of the amendment was to specifically define what constitutes a golf cart since golf carts are the only non-highway vehicles to be allowed on city streets. City Administrator Gary Brennan said safety and liability concerns are the reasons why only golf carts will be allowed on city streets.
In other business, the council approved a request from the Fieldcrest Sports Booster to paint various emblems and messages on city streets between the high school and the athletic field at Veterans Park.
County Road 2 to be Resurfaced
Mayor
Bill Koos said County Road 2 will be resurfaced in October from the
curve north of Minonk west to Route 251. Koos said the old asphalt will
be milled, stockpiled and reused to create shoulders along the road
after the new asphalt is laid.
Public Comments
Minonk resident Larry Hill told the council he thought that other non-highway vehicles besides golf carts should be allowed to be driven on city streets.
Minonk area resident Dave Uphoff said he was asked by a former Minonk resident to ask the city council why the owner of the former Young's Garage at the corner of Sixth and Chestnut be allowed to leave the building in a state of disrepair. Uphoff said the place is a fire hazard with boxes and furniture stacked on top of each other crammed against the windows. He said the place is an eye sore and makes downtown Minonk look bad and recommended the council make the owner clean the place up.
