The Minonk City Council approved a bid of $88,485 to construct a handicap access ramp and sidewalk at the southwest corner of Sixth and Chestnut. The bid by Hein Construction of Peoria came in higher than the $75,000 estimate made by the City's engineering firm, the Farnsworth Group. The Farnsworth representative told the council the bid was high because the project had a lot of unknowns even though it was not considered an overly difficult project. A lower bid of $81,350 submitted by Epple Construction was rejected because it was submitted on an improper bid form.
The Council was asked to discuss the revised Nuisance Regulations. Alderman Russell Ruestman asked if only citizens can submit nuisance complaints. City Administrator Doug Elder said the new regulations is complaint driven which means complaints can be submitted not only by citizens but also the Police Department and other City officials.
Minonk Township Clerk Rich Luckey told the Council to prepare to discuss an offer to be presented at the next Council meeting. Luckey said the Minonk Township will agree to donate to the City a 140 foot by 200 foot tract of land at the north east corner of Veterans Park for purposes of developing a parking lot on the land across from the east ball diamond. Luckey said in return the Township wants the City to provide sewer and water to the Township's property adjacent to the land to be given to the City. Alderman Ruestman asked the City Administrator to come up with estimates for providing sewer and water to the Township property before the next Council meeting.
City Administrator Doug Elder said the next Council meeting will be on Tuesday, September 6.
Mayor Bill Koos said the condemned house on Short Street will be demolished this Thursday by the owner.
