The Minonk City Council approved the appointment of Gary Brennan as the new city administrator. Brennan will start his duties on July 16th under a one year contract and will receive an annual salary of $65,000 plus benefits.
In other action the council approved a motion to allow clothing reimbursement for City employees up to a maximum of $525 a year.
Marsha Anderson came before the council again to ask if the City has done anything to find out why her mother, Clara Arrowsmith, had a water bill in May that was $212 when normally the bill is only $23. Ms. Anderson said her mother's water will be cut off if the bill is not paid by July 5th. She wanted to know if the City knows where the water went. Councilman Russell Ruestman said he sympathized with Mrs. Arrowsmith's plight but since it has been determined that the meter is working properly there is nothing the City can do about the water bill. Alderman Justin Faulk added that the City can't forgo high water bills just because they are higher than normal. To do so would result in everyone wanting the City to forgo water bills that are higher than normal. Mayor Bill Koos said the City can arrange a payment plan for high water bills.
