The Minonk City Council approved the 2013 street maintenance program at its Monday night meeting. The estimated total cost for street maintenance and repairs is $91,000 of which $65, 500 will come from the MFT (Motor Fuel Tax) fund and $25,500 will come from other city funds. The major work will be done on Moran Street from Chestnut to Maple Avenue and on Fifth Street going west from Chestnut Street. Corey Ruestman was the high bidder for both trucks bidding $1907 for the 1981 International and $7007 for the 1992 Chevrolet. City Administrator Gary Brennan said the city's website is up at running at www.cityofminonk.com although the content is not yet complete. Brennan told the council it needs to decide if online payment of utilities should be added to the web site. The cost for using the online billing would be borne by the customer and can range anywhere from $1.50 per bill to $7. Brennan said the other option is to offer an auto direct deposit for utility customers through the customer's bank. There would be no charge for this option and the advantage of this option is that the payment would automatically interface with the City's General Ledger system. The online billing system would require payments to be manually added to the City's General Ledger system. Brennan said the council can decide to go with both options, which would require a decision from the utility customer, or just one of the options or none at all. City Administrator Brennan said the City has received a $15,000 grant to update the electrical system in its buildings.
