City Hears Plan to Lower Electric Rates

The Minonk City Council listened to a proposal for lower electric rates on its various hookups. Brad Liegel ,Illinois Marketing Manager for Energy Alliance Corporation, wants the City to consider using Integrys for supplying electricity to all its electric hookups. Presently, the City is using Integrys to supply electricity to the City Water Plant and the City Sewer Plant at a rate of 5.45 cents per kilowatt hour but is paying ComEd 7.815 cents per kilowatt hour for 16 other electrical hookups. Liegel said there is no negatives in going with Integrys for all its electrical hookup and it will save the City money. The City would still be billed through ComEd if it went with Integrys for all its electricity.
TIF 2 SurplusThe Council approved Ordinance 2012-2 which declares a TIF surplus of $28,672.86 in TIF #2. The surplus will be allocated to all taxing bodies and payment will be made within the week.
Award TIF FundsThe Council approved the awarding of TIF # 2 funds in the amount of $3838.33 to Glen Carls for roof repair at his building at 568 Chestnut Street. The total cost of the project is $11,500 and the TIF award is 1/3 of that amount.
Approve AuditorThe Council awarded the auditing for fiscal year ending April 30, 2012 to Striegel & Knoblock of Bloomington for $10,500.
Approve FOI OfficerPolice Chief Nick Cavera was approved as the new Freedom of Information Officer (FOI).
Budget Available for Inspection
The tentative budget for 2012-2013 is available for public inspection beginning Thursday, April 5. at City Hall during normal business hours. A public hearing on the the budget will be held on April 16 at 6:45 pm where interested parties can be heard.
