In an abbreviated session, the Minonk City Council renewed their garbage pickup contract with Titan Environmental Services (TES) of El Paso for a period of 3 years, starting June 3, 2011 running through June 5, 2014. The new contract gives a 4% increase to TES for their services. The City will pay TES $11.60 per month per household with a guaranteed minimum of 800 households. This means the garbage rate for Minonk residents will increase to $13.95 a month. City Administrator Doug Elder said the City is satisfied with the quality of service provided by TES and urged the Council to approve the new contract.
In other business, the Council approved a motion to change the split on the payment of health insurance premiums for City employees from 90% - 10% to 85% - 15% which means City employees will pay 5% more on their health insurance premium.
City Administrator Doug Elder said that 9 sets of plans have gone out to contractors for bids on the storm sewer project. Elder said this indicates there will active bidding on the project which is expected to start in June.
