City to tackle ambulance financing
Monday, March 05, 2012 - Posted 9:04:40 PM
While ambulance financing was on the city council agenda at its normal Monday night meeting, Mayor Bill Koos asked to delay discussing the issue and referred the item to the finance committee meeting Tuesday night. The ambulance squad wants to adopt the new curriculum that would satisfy the 2013 Mandate and advance the EMT level of the squad. Mayor Koos has said that $250,000 will be needed to fund the ambulance squad and the new budget will have to provide for the funding mechanism.
In other news, the Mayor appointed Police Chief Nick Cavera as the Zoning Enforcement Officer to fill the position vacated by the former City Administrator Doug Elder.
A new item that will be on each agenda from now on is Old and New Business. Under old business Alderman Nick Fiorini said the township has been grading and graveling the property at the northeast corner of Veterans Park, supposedly for a parking lot. Mayor Koos said the township will be contacted to see what they plan on doing with the property.
Alderman Fiorini said the new back stop at the east ball diamond at Veterans Park is being put up by Hohulin Fence Co. To keep the project cost under $7200, volunteers took down the old back stop. Fiorini added that bid for a field maintenance contract for the ball diamonds will be going out soon.
Alderman Ruestman congratulated the Fieldcrest basketball teams for their great showing this past week. Fieldcrest High School is playing Rockford Lutheran tomorrow night at Dekalb in the Super Sectional, the first time a Fieldcrest has ever advanced that far.
Mayor Koos congratulated the Fieldcrest Dance Team for winning 2 trophies at the State Dance Competition at Peoria. The Mayor added that he and the council will do whatever it takes to bring the budget in on time without the services of a City Administrator.
