City appoints new Parks & Rec Chairman

The Minonk City Council unanimously approved the nomination of Rich Luckey to Chairman of the Parks & Recreation Department at their normal Monday night meeting. He replaces Roger Gaspardo who stepped down from the position last fall. Luckey said that two people have volunteered to become members of the Parks & Rec committee after several resignations last year.
The Council approved an ordinance that grants a special use permit to Allen Snow to use the second story of his property at 454 N. Chestnut, above the bowling alley, for residential use. The Council also approved a TIF 2 award of $1,021.64 to Jay Hurd for sewer repair behind Pop's Sweet Shop at 570 N. Chestnut Street. The amount represents 1/3 of the cost of the sewer repair.
The Council approved participation in the Management and Planning Program Involving Non-Metropolitan Groups (Mapping), a program offered by Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs. The cost of the program is $2846 which is to be paid by local sponsorship and donations.
Aldermen Faulk, Ruestman, Fiorini thanked Keith Harms for his ten years of service as a policeman on the Minonk Police Department. Harms resigned his position this past month.
Mayor Bill Koos said over 90 people attended the annual dinner for community volunteers where Officer Keith Harms and retiring Parks & Rec Chairman Roger Gaspardo were honored.
