News Subject: City hires O'Riley as City Treasurer - 06/07/2009 -

First, I would like to say thank you for reporting of the city council activity.  It seems reporting of city council activity in the Woodford Journal is absent more than it appears.

Not everyone has computer access to these reports and not everyone reads the Woodford Journal.  It is important that we have both mediums available to the public.

I commend the mayor and city council in its selection of Steve O'Riley to fill the post of City Treasurer. The $6600 is not too much to pay for this position.  The job does intail a whole lot more work and time than just signing checks to pay bills authorized by the city council.

I applaud the mayor and city council for initating action now so as to be ready for the upcoming 2010 census.  And, I am certainly happy to see there definite action towards securing a city administrator.

News Subject: Newsletter from State Rep. Keith Sommer - 01/26/2010 -

I can remember a similar proposal about 20 years ago that was to require the state to fund all mandates on local taxing bodies.  The idea found its way to file 13 before it got on the table for consideration.  With the current appetite of both federal and state governments to spend more and more of the taxpayers money, I think it is more likely the proposal to require state funding of school mandates will die the same death.  It is impossible to understand such an idea when it is already a proven fact the State is not making on-time payments to schools or anyone such as health care providers and others, the money they are entitled to now. This "fuzzy" math and accountiung practices of both levels of governments is beyond stupidty. One plus one still equals two.
Editorial Subject: Retry Blago a Good Decision - 09/01/2010 -

Dave:  I agree whole-heartedly with your opinion regarding our clown governor - Blago.  I, as one person, never had any faith in this guy's ability from the get-go, mainly because he is the product of the Chicago political snake pit.  He successfully proved my opinion as right about him.  With all his public antics on all the talk shows in the media, I am amazingly surprised it is even remotely possible to find legitimate unbiased jurors to serve on a jury.  The first jury proves my opinion.  However, this not a legitmate reason to forego a new trial. There are truly honest unbiased people out there, the prosecution must be more prudent in the selection process.
