MDR Mohawks Midstate Conference Champions in 1962

Sept. 20: MDR Mohawks sped to an opening victory over Metamora's Redbirds Friday with a final score of 13-0.

Minonk became the 330th community to receive natural gas from Northern Illinois Gas Co., Tuesday, when Mayor E. P. Moran opened a gate valve at 10:00 A.M. at the city's eastern limits.

Homecoming queens at MDR's 16th annual homecoming are Donna Timmerman, senior; Mary Beth Weiland, junior; Janice O'Brien, sophomore; and Martha Goodwin, freshman.

Oct. 4: Coach Jim Lee's MDR Mohawks now 3-0 for the season are tied for first place in the Midstate conference with Gridley by ripping the Chenoa Redbirds 12-6 at the MDR Homecoming last Friday.

Oct. 11: Minonk-Dana-Rutland High School's winningest football team continued it winning ways last Friday with a thumping one-sided, 26-6 victory over the Woodland Warriors.

Oct. 25: The Gridley Redskins held off the Minonk-Dana-Rutland Mohawks here at home in a deluge of rain in a scoreless deadlock. Both of these teams came out the same way they came in - undefeated.

Nov. 1: The MDR Mohawks down El Paso 21-0 and tie with Gridley in the Midstate Conference.

Workers are busy removing the old roof on St. Patrick's Church in Minonk, preparing it for installation of a new one. Petri Bros. of Minonk is doing the job.

The Minonk Explorer Boy Scout Troop is the largest Explorer group in the area. 23 boys and two leaders are signed up for the canoe trip.

After the Halloween parade and judging last night, everyone went to the Minonk Theater where they enjoyed a free cartoon show and free popcorn.

Nov. 8: The MDR Mohawks slapped a 41-6 conference defeat on the Lexington Minutemen last Friday night. This victory earned the Mohawk team a draw in the Midstate Conference championship with the Gridley Redskins. This is the Mohawks' first Midstate championship.

2511 Minonk area men, women and children turned out for their sugar cubes Sunday, each with three drops of Type I Sabin Polio vaccine.

At a special congregational meeting, the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Minonk decided to build an entirely new church plan.
